Apprentice rule change an ATROC initiative
01-Aug-2011: The Apprentice claiming rule change which takes affect from today (1 August, 2011) was an initiative brought about by the Australian Thoroughbred Racehorse Owners Council (ATROC).

The change to AR92(6) means that an apprentice will be entitled to claim the same allowance to which he was entitled when acceptances for that race meeting officially closed.

“This rule change means that owners and their trainers who engage an apprentice at acceptances can no longer be penalised if they outride their claim between acceptance time and the race meeting,” said ATROC chairman Grant Morgan.

“ATROC raised the issue initially with the ARB and we were delighted that the National Stewards Conference saw fit to endorse the change, with the support of other major stakeholder groups.”

ATROC comprises of representatives of state based racehorse owners associations’ from Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, Western Australia, South Australia, Tasmania and the Northern Territory.
