Talented Brisbane mare Zero Rock may not have won during the month of June, but her Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap placing was more than enough to earn her owners David and Dianna Devine the Owners of The Month Award.
Zero Rock commenced June with a narrow Group 2 second in the Dane Ripper at Eagle Farm.
She backed up a week later to record a gallant third in the Group 1 Stradbroke, beaten 2.5 len behind Sincero.
Zero Rock has been a wonderful earner for her connections David and Dianna Devine, who also bred the daughter of former Arrowfield Stud stallion Danzero.
She is out of the Brocco mare Broc N Roll, who also raced in the Devine’s familiar cerise and black silks under their long term trainer Kelso Wood.
Broc ‘n’ Roll was highly talented mare winning 5 of her 8 starts with victories at Eagle Farm (2 wins), Doomben (2 wins) and Ipswich (1 win), plus a third placing during the spring carnival at Caulfield.
Zero Rock is the third foal of Broc ‘n’ Roll, who is also the dam of two other smart fillies in Rock On Bye (by Octagonal) and Rock Idol (by Flying Spur).
This is the immediate female family of the great triple Oaks winner November Rain, with this fabulous line is enjoying a wonderful resurgence with both Zero Rock and close immediate relation Dubleanny future broodmare stars.
A highly successful property developer, David Devine and wife Dianna have enjoyed considerable success with their racing interests under the care of the astute Kelso Wood.
Zero Rock stands as their most prominent performer with her earnings now topping $840,000 at the close of the Brisbane winter, with 10 wins from 25 starts, with a further 8 minor placings.
