OWNERS OF THE MONTH
January 2010 Home Town Win For Heinrich
Horse:MILITARY ROSE
Owners: Heinrich Bloodstock Syd Trainer: Ms G Heinrich (Gold Coast) Breeding: br f General Nediym - Bella Maddelena (by Flying Spur) Purchased At: 2009 Magic Millions $155,000
Few Queensland owners have put more into racing in recent years than Hoss and Gillian Heinrich.
So it was with just reward their outstanding filly claimed the prized Magic Millions Two Year-Old Classic at the Gold Coast.
Military Rose was a $155,000 yearling purchase from the 2009 Magic Millions Yearling Sale on the Gold Coast.
She was a member of the Middlebrook Valley Lodge draft, a boutique farm in the Hunter Valley.
Military Rose is a daughter of the Flying Spur mare Bella Maddelena, a winner of two races under Gai Waterhouse at Canterbury and Kembla Grange.
The Military Rose Magic Millions win also ended a long drought for Gold Coast prepared two year-olds.
Snippets was the only previous Gold Coast trained winner when he claimed the inaugural running of the race way back in 1987.
The Magic Millions victory is the career highlight for Gillian Heinrich, who has been training for twenty years.
Born and bred on the Gold Coast, Gillian Heinrich prepares a big team of quality gallopers from her Gold Coast stables.
Most are owned by husband Hoss, a successful building industry figure in South East Queensland.
The Heinrich’s were no doubt initially attracted to Military Rose because of a precocious looking pedigree.
From a sire perspective, Military Rose had plenty of building blocks to suggest she might be a two year-old.
Her sire General Nediym was himself a Magic Millions winner in 1997, whilst her broodmare sire Flying Spur claimed the 1992 Golden Slipper.
A further look at Military Rose female pedigree also unearths an abundance of two year-old speed.
Her third dam is blue hen broodmare Summoned, the dam of brilliant sprinters Zeditave, Alannon, Square Deal and Zedagal.
In more recent times, this prolific family has unearthed horses like Jet Spur, Melito and Flying Alpha.
