OWNERS OF THE MONTH

April 2010
Home Town win for Poor Judge
Horse: POOR JUDGE
Owners: Phiilp Tjoeng
Trainer: N L Hilton (Toowoomba)
Breeding: 4yo b g Royal Academy (USA) - Outward Display (by Thunder Gulch (USA))
Purchased At: 2007 Magic Millions Premier Sale for $170,000
Toowoomba galloper Poor Judge rewarded connections with a popular local win in the time honoured Weetwood Handicap, earning him the April Owners of The Month Award.
Poor Judge is prepared at Toowoomba by highly rated horseman Norm Hilton.
A former rodeo rider who turned his hand to training just three years ago, the Weetwood win is a career highlight for Hilton.
Poor Judge was originally prepared by ex Gai Waterhouse staffer Pat Sexton, before joining Hilton.
Under Hilton’s care, Poor Judge has now won five of his seven starts.
The son of Royal Academy came into the Weetwood with back to back Eagle Farm wins, culminating in his first stakes success in the Listed Bribie Handicap.
The Weetwood win made it career victory nine from just eighteen starts for Poor Judge.
Poor Judge is out of the Thunder Gulch mare Outward Display, who represents a highly recognisable family from Edwardo Cojuanco’s Gooree Stud.
Whilst not overly littered with black type, Outward Displays’ pedigree page is highlighted by smart Gooree stakes winners Proud Player and more recently, Royal Courtship.
The evergreen Royal Academy is now aged twenty three, and last season was still in service at Coolmore Stud.
Poor Judge is a member of Royal Academy’s ninth Australian crop.
Poor Judge was purchased by Sydney Bloodstock Agent Steve Brem at the 2007 Magic Millions Premier Sale on the Gold Coast.
A former racing manager for Sydney trainer Gai Waterhouse, Brem went to $170,000 for Poor Judge from the Gooree Stud draft.
Poor Judge is owned by New Guinea based owner Phillip Tjoeng, who unfortunately wasn’t on hand at Toowoomba to witness the memorable win.
