MEDIA RELEASE - 11 June 2009

Gold Coast Upgrade Vital for Owners

The Queensland Racehorse Owners Association fully supports proposed upgrades to the existing Gold Coast Turf Club track at Bundall.

As a training facility, the Gold Coast caters for more horses and owners than any other single track in Queensland and is a valuable industry asset which requires urgent upgrading in several areas.

The QROA believes that existing owners and trainers are entitled to upgraded facilities on the Gold Coast, which will address the year round issue of overcrowding at the current training facilities.

Other sporting codes have in recent times been granted substantial Government support for upgraded facilities on the Gold Coast.

We believe it is only appropriate that the local racing industry receives similar backing to guarantee the future of high class thoroughbred racing and training on the Gold Coast.

The QROA urges Queensland Racing, all levels of Government, Magic Millions and the Gold Coast Turf Club to continue to work closely together to ensure the viability and enhancement of thoroughbred racing on the Gold Coast.
